| A Boone County man faces up to 70 years in prison after being convicted in a wreck that killed four people, including two small children, in his truck, MetroNews reports. Frank Gene Thompson, 40, was high on methamphetamine when he crashed his pickup truck on U.S. 119 near Danville.

Four people -- Rebecca Bias, 46; Betty Holstein, 31; Alyssa Bowman, 5; and Nathaniel Thompson, 1 -- died either when the wreck happened or in the ensuing fire, Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Keith Randolph said.

| Don't expect to have a Bloody Mary with Sunday brunch in Greenbrier County anytime soon, according to one county commissioner.

A new law allows county voters to decide if they'll let restaurants serve alcohol before 1 p.m. on Sundays. But WVVA-TV reports that one county commissioner doesn't expect to take the issue up unless asked, and doesn't think the idea would pass muster with Greenbrier County voters.

| A former Wayne County assessor was sentenced to five years of probation for embezzling more than $50,000, according to the Herald-Dispatch. Eric Hodges could have faced 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to two felonies in January.

As part of the plea deal arranged with special prosecutor Mark Sorsaia, Putnam County's prosecuting attorney, Hodges will have to pay back $58,007 to the county.

| The new student government at West Virginia University officially took office on Wednesday night, according to The Daily Athenaeum. Julie Merow, a public relations student from Morgantown, is the new WVU student body president, and Mac McIntyre, a political science student from Bridgeport, is vice president.

| A tractor-trailer driver survived a plunge off Interstate 64 east of Beckley, according to the Register-Herald. Rescue workers needed about an hour to pull the man back up to a waiting ambulance.
