In Around West Virginia: a man fleeing police strikes several police vehicles, and updates on the Beckley clinic that health officials say may have exposed patients to hepatitis.
n A man who was fleeing police struck a West Virginia State Police vehicle, two Fairmont Police vehicles and a Marion County Sheriff's Department vehicle on Monday, according to WBOY. Ryan Heflin, 19, has been charged with reckless fleeing and may face other charges. Police say he fled after they saw him in a stolen vehicle.
n The Register-Herald reports that the patients who contracted hepatitis C and B after visiting a Beckley heart clinic were likely exposed to the diseases through human error. Letters went out last week to 2,300 patients of the Raleigh Heart Clinic, informing them they may have been exposed to the diseases and urging them to get tested.
The Register-Herald reports that according to DHHR, the Bureau for Public Health has not received any more laboratory-confirmed reports of patients with hepatitis since the notice was sent. Meanwhile, WVVA reports that the Beckley-Raleigh Health Department has tested almost 300 people since the letters were sent, but it could take two to three weeks to get the results back.
n A Monongalia County judge told a man he has two weeks to find a substance abuse treatment facility or he will be sent to jail, according to the Dominion Post. Gregory K. Grim Jr. could be sent to jail for six months, followed by 18 months of probation, for almost running over a group of people with his child in the car.
n The Daily Athenaeum reports that the Student Government Association decided not to impeach Student Body President George Capel after his public intoxication and trespassing arrest. No member of the BOG would tell the newspaper why they reached the decision.
