CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The first TV ad by an outside group in the West Virginia governor's race is running, and it criticizes billionaire Democratic candidate Jim Justice.
According to Federal Communications Commission filings, Americans for Integrity in Government Officials Inc. bought the ad time. The TV spot mentions lawsuits against Justice's businesses, tax breaks they receive, workplace safety at his coal mines and tax payment issues.
Americans for Integrity in Government Officials is a nonprofit that doesn't disclose its funders.
The group is registered to several people at an address in Boca Raton, Florida. A call and email to the group weren't immediately returned.
Justice, Booth Goodwin and Jeff Kessler are running in the May 10 Democratic primary.
Justice's campaign blamed the ad on Goodwin. Goodwin said his campaign wasn't involved in it.
