The Charleston Rose Society has canceled its annual rose show.

In a letter to sponsors, show chairwoman Lynda Grass said there aren't enough exhibitors to make the show viable.

"Our 2015 show made us realize that we do not have enough exhibitors in the area to put on a top-quality show that our sponsors and the Kanawha Valley are used to and deserve," she said in the letter.

The show has had difficulty in recent years to attract enough exhibitors. It was canceled in 2013 and 2014 due to declined participation and weather.

This year would have marked the show's 91st year.

"We are working to increase our membership, which should result in more exhibitors," Grass said. "But this is going to take some time to accomplish."

Through the show, the Rose Society seeks to educate the public about roses, including how they're grown and cared for.

The Rose Show was an all-day exhibition in Charleston, typically in June.

Grass said she hopes the society can have another show in the future.
