A light pole fell onto the Winfield High School girls softball field, but the team isn't letting it stop them.
The pole fell onto the field during a storm last week, head coach Steve Hensley said.
The Putnam County School Board of Education and Appalachian Electric Power are working to replace the poles, and get the field up and running.
The collapsed pole was just a minor setback for the team, which is still practicing and playing on the field.
"I think things are going in a good direction," Hensley said. "It looks like by next week we're going to making good progress on it."
Adam Weiss, father of pitcher Allison Weiss, said this could potentially affect how the girls play. The lack of current lighting creates an issue for evening games when the sun sets, Weiss said.
"They may have to play a lot of games, if not all of the games, on the road," Weiss said.
School officials hope the pole will be fixed by next week.
The team is currently trying to raise money for softball facility upgrades, Weiss said.
The funds will be for the field and equipment, and possibly a new locker room, bleachers and a pressbox, according to the GoFundMe set up for the team.

Winfield's softball team is trying to improve on last year's 16-13 record in the first year for head coach Steve Hensley, who was named the 2015 Kanawha Valley coach of the year. The Generals are led by a talented junior class of eight players, including Cartney Schoolcraft, a tough pitcher, and Emily Moore, last year's team leader in runs batted in.
