Rose society

The Charleston Rose Society will have its first meeting of the year at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1600 Kanawha Blvd. E. Peter Harris will be talking about "Making New Roses." Diana Fleek is hostess. There is no fee. Guests are always welcome.

Metro 911 Directors

The Board of Directors of the Metro Emergency Operations Center will meet at noon Tuesday at the Ned Chilton 911 Center, 200 Peyton Way, Southridge Business Park. The Finance Committee and the Executive Board will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

UC Builders Luncheon

The University of Charleston Builders Luncheon will be at noon Wednesday in the Erma Byrd Art Gallery, Riggleman Hall. A meet and greet session begins at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon will feature West Virginia native and children's book writer Sarah Sullivan, author of "All That's Missing," and "Once Upon a Baby Brother," which was named a 2011 Bank Street College "Best Children's Book of the Year" winner. Al-Anon/Alateen

Al-anon meetings are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1105 Quarrier St.; at noon Wednesdays at the Kanawha County Day Report Center, 900 Christopher St.; and at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Drive.

Alateen - for teens who deal with the alcoholism and/or drug addiction of a family member or friend meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Dr. and noon on Fridays at Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier St., Room 200, second floor. The Legacy Study Group meets at 7 p.m. Sundays at First Presbyterian Church, 508 Second Ave., South Charleston. For more information on the WV Al-Anon, call 304-345-7420.
