A trooper was assaulted by a fugitive the officer was trying to arrest on Wednesday, State Police say.

State Police sent out a news release Wednesday afternoon asking for the public's help in locating Nathaniel Ray Wegman, a 27-year-old fugitive from Indiana. When a trooper from the Elkins detachment attempted Wednesday afternoon to apprehend Wegman on Pond Street in the Mill Creek area of Randolph County, Wegman allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted the trooper.

State Police say they don't know in which direction Wegman fled, and that Wegman "may have" sustained injuries.

They are discouraging anyone from approaching him, because he could be dangerous.

Wegman is 5-foot-7, weighs about 165 pounds, has brown eyes and dark hair. He was last seen wearing a lime green shirt and dark shorts, and may be in a black Infiniti with Indiana registration WIY820 or WLY820. The vehicle may be driven by a woman named Laura Lynn.

Anyone with information on his location can call the nearest detachment of the State Police or 911.
