CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A state program has awarded grants totaling $100,000 to eight projects that promote healthy living in communities.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced the Growing Healthy Communities grants on Monday.
The largest grant, $20,000, was awarded to Discover Downtown Charles Town to evaluate the walkability of sidewalks and other pedestrian infrastructure, and to develop a plan to connect these areas.
Grants also were awarded for healthy living projects in Ronceverte, Fairmont, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Ripley, Beverly and Elkins.
