Ohio County's school board voted 3-1 Monday night to offer a four-year contract to its chosen new superintendent.

Kimberly Miller will start July 1 with an annual salary of $138,000, which will increase to $150,000 by her fourth year, according to board members. The board voted last month to enter contract negotiations with Miller, who's currently principal of the local Woodsdale Elementary.

Board member Sarah Koegler said she voted Monday against offering the contract, while fellow members Tim Birch, Gary Kestner and Shane Mallett voted for it. Miller still must sign the contract, but she agreed to it in negotiations with Mallett, Koegler said.

Koegler said board member, Christine Carder, was absent Monday due to her annual Florida vacation, and noted that other board members had voted against she and Carder to ban voting by teleconference.

Koegler, who still disagrees with the male board members' abrupt December vote to not renew current Superintendent Dianna Vargo's contract, said she still fully supports Miller. But she said she'd only support a two-year contract for the new superintendent.

"I stated that before I knew who any of the finalists were," she said.

Vargo, who will leave the position June 30, currently makes $150,000 annually. She's served the Northern Panhandle school system for 32 years, including the last four as superintendent and previous years as assistant and deputy superintendent and a principal and teacher at Wheeling Park High.
