YWCA Women of Achievement Award winners Denise Burgess, Sara Busse, Daven Burroughs and Mary Jean Davis were honored at the 20th annual Women of Achievement Awards Luncheon on Friday.
Each year, YWCA Charleston honors three Kanawha Valley women for their outstanding personal and professional achievements, as well as their contributions to the community at the annual Women of Achievement luncheon in March. Along with these three, a woman who has overcome obstacles and life challenges through participating in one or more of the YWCA's programs is selected as the Empowerment Award winner.
Denise Burgess is the director of obstetrical services at CAMC Women and Children's Hospital; Sara Busse was instrumental in the development of Trinity's Table, which has served an average of 500 meals a week to anyone in need of a meal; Daven Burroughs, who successfully sought work with the help of YWCA's Job Readiness Center, was honored as the Empowerment Award winner; and Mary Jean Davis is a longtime, active member of Charleston City Council.
