There's a texting scam going around Kanawha County, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Victims have been receiving a text from a number that looks like their wireless service provider, stating that there is a problem with their account or address.
The text asks for the victim's Social Security number and security codes for the account.
The victim's phone and accounts then become locked, enabling the scammer to rack up purchases on credit cards.
Kanawha County sheriff's detectives are working with federal authorities on the case. Anyone with information about the scam is asked to call the sheriff's department at 304-357-0169.
