Math Field Day returned to Putnam County on Wednesday, as students from the four public high schools (Buffalo, Hurricane, Winfield and Poca) and a private school (Teays Valley Christian) competed for prizes, scholarships and bragging rights.

Putnam County Schools partnered with Toyota Motor Manufacturing WV, in Buffalo, which hosted the day of mathematical races, relays and quizzes.

Students competed as scholastic teams and individuals in a series of exams, computation relays and short-answer tests in the morning. In the afternoon, they learned from Toyota representatives about the future of STEM education and opportunities. Scholarships ranging from $200 to $500, and an array of prizes from local businesses, also were up for grabs.
