Food giveaway

The Mountaineer Food Bank and Tabernacle of Praise are teaming up for a food giveaway at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church, located in Cross Lanes, to provide local residents with fresh produce and other goods Mountaineer Food Bank relies on the support of individual and corporate donors for monetary and food resources. International sorority

Preceptor Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Canaan United Methodist Church, Roane Street. President Diane Domaschko will conduct the business meeting. Ann Henderson will present her program and serve refreshments after the business meeting. Service is tabs for Ronald McDonald house, containers for Manna Meal and magazines/books and snacks for the VA hospital/clinic.

Blood drives

The American Red Cross will have the following area blood drives to help with the critical shortage of blood supplies: Monday, 2 to 7 p.m., Winfield United Methodist Church, 20, Radwin Way, Winfield; Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Huntington Blood Donation Center, 1111 Veterans Memorial Blvd.; Thursday, 1:30 to 7 p.m., St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Mathes Hall, 36 Norwood Road; and Feb. 8, University of Charleston, 2300 MacCorkle Ave. For information, visit www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2667.

Creation science

The Kanawha Creation Science Group will hold its monthly meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, 4923 Kentucky St., South Charleston. Business after hours

The Charleston Area Alliance is teaming up with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra for its open house at Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Clay Center. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be available. WVSO musicians will provide musical entertainment throughout the evening. Parking is located at the Clay Center parking lot, across Washington Street. Parking is $3 a car.

Red Evening event

The Charleston Woman's Improvement League will have its second annual "Red Evening" event from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Woman's Club of Charleston, 1600 Virginia St. E. The cost is $25.00 per person. For every ticket sold, $5 will be donated to the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign. For tickets, call 304-437-0353.
