KINGWOOD, W.Va. (AP) - Preston County owes about $13,000 to the IRS in penalties and interests.

The Dominion Post reports County Clerk Linda Huggins told county commissioners Monday that county owes the money because her office failed to submit a form in 2011.

She added that the IRS told her two notices of the violation had been sent. Huggins says, however, that she hasn't seen them and that the agency could not produce copies of the notices.

Commissioners Dave Price and Don Smith say they want the IRS to answer questions they have before committing taxpayer money to the penalties. Price added that he doesn't trust the IRS.

Huggins says the county can make payments of $207 per month while she negotiates with the IRS.
