A shooting Sunday afternoon left one man dead on Charleston's West Side.
Charleston Police and paramedics responded to a call at West Side Market & Deli in the 1700 Block of Seventh Avenue shortly after 3 p.m.
Brian Rogers, 29, of the Ripley area, came into the market after he was shot near the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Rebecca Street, and subsequently collapsed, said Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives for the Charleston Police Department.
Rogers was shot in the "upper body" and was immediately transported to Charleston Area Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide, Cooper said.
"I can say we have had past dealings with this victim," he added.
The shooter is still at large. Cooper said he couldn't comment on whether police have a suspect yet or what they believe may have motivated the shooting.
"Whoever committed this crime has a propensity for violence and is likely armed at this point," Cooper said.
Investigators were still speaking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance video from near the scene as of Sunday evening.
One woman who lives near the scene said she was about to leave her house when she heard a popping noise outside.
"But you hear that so much, you don't pay no attention to it in this neighborhood," she said.
Anyone with information about the shooting suspect or the incident is asked to contact the Charleston Police Department at 304-348-6480, and may remain anonymous, Cooper said.
