The black bears that will be showcased atop a Rose Parade float in Pasadena, California, on New Year's Day officially have been named.
The West Virginia Division of Tourism said the bears will be known as "Courage" and "Pride." The float, a partnership between WVU Medicine Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, will showcase "Wild, Wonderful West Virginia" during the 127th Rose Parade.
People were invited to submit names for the bears via Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The final names were selected by the float riders, who will be former patients of WVU Medicine Children's Hospital.
The theme for this year's parade is "Find Your Adventure." The float celebrates West Virginia's four seasons and recreational opportunities that include whitewater rafting, golfing, biking, fishing, hiking and skiing. The state animal, bird and flower are featured, in addition to the iconic New River Gorge Bridge and The Greenbrier's Springhouse.
