MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University has named a Mississippi State University dean to lead the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.
Provost Joyce McConnell announced Gregory Dunaway's appointment as dean of the Eberly College on Tuesday in a news release. His appointment is effective March 31, 2016.
Dunaway has served as dean of Mississippi State's College of Arts & Sciences since 2013. He previously served as associate dean for academic and student affairs from 2011 to 2012, and as department head of sociology from 2008 to 2011.
"I am both humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve as the next dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences," Dunaway said in the release. "I was highly impressed with both the quality of the faculty and programs of Eberly. It is clear that the college and WVU is on a great trajectory.
"I am eager to work with the faculty, staff, administration, and students to continue to build on the tradition of excellence in Eberly and West Virginia University. I look forward to being a Mountaineer!"
The Eberly College is WVU's largest college, according to the news release. It employs more than 435 faculty and offers 36 undergraduate majors and 32 graduate programs.
Dunaway's appointment means that Maryanne Reed, who had been serving as interim dean for Eberly, will be stepping back into her permanent position as dean at WVU's Reed College of Media.
