Historical society open house
The St. Albans Historical Society will be having an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at their museum at 404 Fourth Ave. in St. Albans, adjacent to the C&O Depot. Hundreds of vintage photos, items and books will be featured.
Holiday gathering
The annual Kanawha Valley Village People's Holiday Gathering, co-sponsored by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)/WVU at Charleston, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Hale House in Malden. The entertainment will be by KVVP members and friends in a newly formed singing group, performing a short selection of music followed by a sing-a-long of Christmas carols. Trail club hike
Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike at 1:30 p.m., Coonskin Park. Carpool from the parking lot at the corner of Ohio Avenue and Randolph Street, across from the post office. Hike along the river bike path and then nature trail and adjacent areas. Tricky footing along the canyon and one long moderately steep grade. The hike is approximately 3-4 miles.
The Kanawha Estates Garden Club will hold a Christmas party at 6 p.m. on Monday at the home of Dottie Hess. Bring a party dish, snacks for Ronald McDonald House and your Christmas cheer.
Ornament decorating
The Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District will have its first Ornament Decorating event at 5 p.m. Monday at the St. Cloud Commons Lodge, Huntington. All ages are encouraged to come and create a one of a kind ornament. The event is free. Pre-registration is required by Saturday at 304-696-5954. Public hearing
The West Virginia Board of Banking and Financial Institutions will have a public meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the conference room of the West Virginia Division of Financial Institutions, third floor, 900 Pennsylvania Ave., Suite 306. The board will consider an application by Premier Financial Bancorp, Huntington, to acquire First National Bankshares Corporation, Ronceverte, through merger. International sorority
Alpha Lambda Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority will have their Christmas meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Rhonda Ashworth on Garrison Avenue. Members are to bring a covered dish to share. Lynn Greter will read a Christmas story. Secret Sisters will share gifts. Members are also to bring a wrapped Christmas ornament to be exchanged.
