MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Amid an increase in reports of domestic violence and stalking, West Virginia University's governing board is broadening its definition of sexual harassment.
The university's police chief, Bob Roberts, told The Dominion Post Title IX has generated a great deal of discussion about how sexual assaults are tracked and defined. Title IX is aimed at tackling sexual discrimination in education.
He said the proposed changes involve recent amendments to federal regulations as well as additional guidance.
In 2014, 23 cases of domestic violence were reported at WVU. They included 14 on campus and seven at fraternities and sororities. Two were off-campus.
In 2013, 15 cases were reported.
The number of stalking incidents also increased. One was reported in 2013, while 16 were reported in 2014.
