n The family of a student with Down syndrome is not backing down after Wetzel County schools refused to let the teenager attend a high school closer to his home. WTRF reports that the state is now investigating. Roy Stevens' parents have said he flourished while attending Hundred High School, versus Magnolia High School, which is about an hour away from his residence. More than 2,000 people have signed a petition.
n Family members speak to The Dominion Post about the emotional year since Jody Hunt fatally shot their loved ones. Cathy Brady, the wife of the late Doug Brady, has taken over Doug's Towing. She said, "It's hard to do it without him."
n Harpers Ferry hopes to raise about $56,000 with a new sales tax expected to take effect July 1, according to The State Journal. In the town's application for home rule status, officials describe a town struggling with several displaced businesses after the July 23 fire, as well as declining gaming income.
n The Monongalia County Sheriff's Department has determined when a deputy shot and killed a man while serving an arrest warrant earlier this month, the officer did not violate any department policies or procedures, according to The Dominion Post. Sheriff Al Kisner announced the decision on Monday, while still declining to name the officer.
n The Jefferson County Adult Drug Court is now functioning, according to The Journal. So far the program only serves two participants, but organizers have plans to expand. They also aim to serve Berkeley County.
