State regulators have agreed to a settlement in which MarkWest Liberty Midstream & Resources will pay more than $76,000 in fines for a long list of water pollution violations at its pipeline operations in four northern West Virginia counties, officials said.
The state Department of Environmental Protection on Friday announced a public comment period that runs through Oct. 23 on its consent order with MarkWest. MarkWest gathers and processes natural gas.
The consent order outlines water pollution problems related to at least five different pipeline projects in Ohio, Marshall, Doddridge and Wetzel counties between May 2013 and April 2015.
DEP had previously reached a deal with MarkWest in February 2013 in which the company paid more than $300,000 in fines for water pollution violations.
