A 12th edition of Winterfest is ready to light up Cedar Lakes Conference Center. The event continues now through Jan. 1 with crafts, music, a dinner theater and horse drawn wagon rides surrounded by Christmas light displays.

Many of the displays depict West Virginia themes ranging from coal trains and lumberjacks to the Hatfield & McCoy feud. Most were constructed by vocational students from across the state. Display hours are from 6-9 p.m. each evening.

An option is to view the lights from horse-drawn wagon rides on Friday and Saturday evenings in December, plus Dec. 20-23. Rides are $6 and begin at the Administration Building.

Christmas in Candyland is a children's party with music, crafts, treats and photos with Santa from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Dec. 1. Sponsored by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, admission is a new unwrapped toy.

Cedar Lakes has long been known for its year-round craft program and the holiday season is no exception. Six workshops are scheduled from Nov. 29 through Dec. 4. Quick holiday quilting, stained glass, woodcarving, woodturning, dulcimer playing, baskets and woven ornaments will be offered.

Folk musician Shelley Stevens will perform seasonal songs and mountain music at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 in Holt Lodge, which offers special winter rates on overnight room accommodations.

This year's dinner theater production is "The Gift of the Magi" presented by the Jackson County Players. Performances are scheduled at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11-12. The buffet dinner includes herbed chicken and roast beef roll-ups. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance at Cedar Lakes or Jackson County Library in Ripley. Call 304-372-7860 for information.
