Charleston Job Corps Center will perform "Graduation Day" in honor of Patriot Day 2015 at 9:30 a.m. today at Stonewall Jackson Middle School, 812 Park Ave. The play, which was written by James Carter, will be performed by CJCC students.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities will sponsor a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at its location, 30th Street near CAMC Memorial Division. Proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern WV.
The St. Albans Historical Society will have their fall meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, at their museum at 404 Fourth Ave, beside the C&O Depot. Neil Richardson will give a program on the early schools and churches in town in the 1800s. Refreshments will follow.
The Kanawha County Republican Executive Committee will have a luncheon at noon Tuesday at the Charleston Civic Center. Featured speaker will be the Rev. James Wright, President and Co-founder at Wright Way Ministries Inc. The Rev. Wright will speak on "Don't Compromise Your Convictions." The cost is $12 per person, cash or check only. The Robert S. Garnett SCV Camp 1470 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Dunbar Public Library. A presentation on the Constitution will be held in honor of the 228th anniversary of the Constitution sent to the states for ratification. Current, former members and perspective members are encouraged to attend.
Freelance journalist George Hohmann will offer a brown-bag lunch presentation, "Seven things every nonfiction freelancer should know," from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 18 in the Power Room on the first floor of the Charleston Area Alliance, 1116 Smith St. Hohmann will offer tips from the American Society of Journalists and Authors' Aug. 28 conference for freelancers in Washington, D.C. The Kanawha City Community Association will sponsor the first Village Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19 throughout Kanawha City. Participants and volunteers are needed. Participating homes, businesses, church and schools will be marked with a red balloon.
